September 29… outside…

Won’t it be hot?!

Maybe! But what else is new?

Seriously though, yes, the lawn at The Orchard is an outdoor venue. We looked at several venue possibilities and weighed the pros (all-inclusiveness, location, privacy, cost) and cons (possible heat) against the truths:

  1. We’re self-funding this thing
  2. We’re competing with wedding season
  3. Most people surveyed preferred a private venue to a restaurant or bar
  4. Pomelo at The Orchard holds events outside in this space all summer long (including reunions) and the barn and lawn space is optimized with misters and whatnot to keep guests comfortable throughout.
  5. Event planners tell us that historically the evenings are pleasant by this point in the year. Time will tell of course, as the summer seems to last longer and longer.

Honestly we could consider ourselves lucky to have found any venue at all, but we’re so truly stoked with everything The Orchard offers an event like ours, we’re willing to take the heat!

Rollin’ with the homies

Can I bring my spouse? My kid? My mom? Yo momma?

Definitely bring your partner, spouse, husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, bestie, even one from another graduating year – a plus-one you consider important in your life is entirely welcome!

As for kiddos… technically the venue has no age restriction, so if you’re a bind… sure. But, everyone needs a ticket, regardless of age or alumni status, to attend, so do buy all guests a ticket.

Beyond that, if someone was pivotal to your high school experience, invite them along, or reach out to the planning committee. We’ve invited faculty as well. We want everyone to feel welcome and included. But do remember this event will be adult-centered, with alcohol and loud music, and very much focused on a great experience for IHS alums.

Do I have to dress up?!

There’s no formal dress code, and most alumni surveyed weren’t hot on a specific theme (say, 90s costume or prom). Plus the venue is outdoors and it’s possible it will be a tad warm, and there will be dancing. So wear what you want!

That said, it is an evening event and probably a special one for many so we expect some will dress up, perhaps in cocktail attire. If you decide to go that route, rest assured you won’t be alone.

And you know, the 90s are back, so you can always get your niece, younger cousin, or even your child to take you shopping for some plaid, crushed velvet, and JNCOs. Don’t forget the Docs!

What if I can’t afford it?

High school was hard enough – we don’t want to make coming back harder. Fortunately with the help of some generous alumni, we are able to offer lower-priced tickets on a sliding scale, and even completely free scholarship tickets! If you feel the cost of a ticket is out of your reach, please check out the updated Eventbrite link and scroll down in the ticket window to see your options. We’d like this event to be inclusive and welcoming and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Please pass this message along to friends!

Of course, we’re self-funding this event and are not out for a profit, just hoping to break even. So if you are able, please do consider purchasing the full price ticket, or even donating to help cover costs, including discount and scholarship tix.
